Today, the ReadMe office is closed so each employee can dedicate their time and energy to supporting their communities.
We are donating the equivalent of our salaries for today to organizations that are actively working to dismantle the systems that led to the unjust killings of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Tony McDade, Ahmaud Arbery, and countless others. These organizations in our home cities include the San Francisco Bay Area Anti-Repression Committee Bail Fund, Columbus Freedom Fund, and Black Visions Collective in Minneapolis.
But it simply isn’t enough to donate, sign a petition, and call it a day. Institutionalized racism is exactly that — institutional. We recognize that we are a part of a broader tech industry that has a lot of learning and unlearning to do in order to foster an environment where black people feel truly safe, supported, and included.
We stand with, and commit to listening to, black communities in their fight for liberation from a broken criminal justice system and a broken technology industry.
We commit to investing in that learning process and fighting for a future that includes all of us.
Black Lives Matter. Today and always.
In solidarity,
The ReadMe team
